The Great Facebook Deletion | Moms Miami //MomsMiami.com Member: mutantsupermodel The Great Facebook Deletion
The other day I announced on Facebook that I’d be deleting the account. The reactions were mixed. Some people were outright mad, others supportive, and most were confused and curious. Most people wanted to know “Why?” Well, it wasn’t the easiest thing to explain especially in such a short format but it’s a question worth examining because to me, Facebook is an interesting phenomenom that...read more...Bad Baby Mama, Good Baby Mama | Moms Miami //MomsMiami.com Member: mutantsupermodel Bad Baby Mama, Good Baby Mama
I’ve had my ridiculous “baby mama drama” moments. I’m not proud. They were more frequent in the first several months of the separation but I think I’ve been a much more controlled and cooperative person the past five months or so. I have a lot of single co-workers and one of my best friends is a single dad. I’ve seen and heard a lot of stories regarding the experience of single parenting....read more...Posted on: Jul 28 2010 - 01:50:00 PMBurying the Fantasy | Moms Miami //MomsMiami.com Member: mutantsupermodel Burying the Fantasy
It’s been over a year since I separated and let me tell you something—the mind is a strange creature. I have no regrets about my separation/divorce. I know the marriage was a rushed thing born of fear and insecurity sustained by pride and deeper insecurity. I shouldn’t have gotten into the marriage and I definitely shouldn’t have stayed in it for nearly as long as I did. People do stupid things when...read more...

I've been saving a lot of money lately doing some extreme couponing. Here's a post to help you get started and saving money yourself! I track these more often on my personal blog but these are just too good to keep there! A lot of people react to my receipts from drugstores and grocery stores, not because they’re astronomically high but because they’re insanely low compared to the amount of stuff...read more...Finances: Recent "A-Ha!" I wouldn't say I worry a lot about money, but I do think a lot about money. My current life situation has me experiencing a very empowering surge that is motivating me to work on all of those things I’ve beat myself up over for so many years. One of them, as you can tell from this blog, is Housekeeping. The other, is Money. Susan Jane Gilman's " Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven " is one of Amazon's Top 100 books of 2009 and I can understand why-- except for one teeny tiny little thing that while Amazon and others clearly have no issue overlooking, really sort of ruined the book for me. First, the basics. This is Gilman's recounting of a trip to China she took in the 1980's with a friend from college. Gilman constantly...read more...Good Enough Words to Live By | Moms Miami //MomsMiami.com Member: mutantsupermodel Good Enough Words to Live By
I read an e-mail this morning which shared this insight: "Perfect is only temporary. 'Good enough' lasts longer." While the anonymous contributor to this little gem may have been specifically referring a to a "good enough" mopped floor, these eight little words should become every mother's mantra. When you step back and think about it, how many times has "perfect" held you back? Want...read more...

Last week I finished up David Finkel's non-fiction work, The Good Soldiers . The book took me much longer to get through than I anticipated because it absolutely weighed heavy on the heart. Finkel was an embedded reporter with a batallion in Iraq in 2007. This is their story and it is a difficult one but a worthy read. If there was a mandatory reading list for Americans, The Good Soldiers should be on it. The writing is...read more...Look Like a Lady, Act Like a Woman | Moms Miami //MomsMiami.com Member: mutantsupermodel Look Like a Lady, Act Like a Woman
A month ago, I caught a post on The Sartorialist that apparently crawled deep into my brain to grow. The post was seemingly innocent enough-- The Sartorialist noticed a stark difference between two of the most impressive collections of the season, Celine & Louis Vuitton; however, what really intrigued The Sartorialist was the complete gender gap in response to the collections . The Sartorialist claimed he had noticed...read more...E is for Eggers | Moms Miami //MomsMiami.com Member: mutantsupermodel E is for Eggers
The latest book I've inhaled in my 26 in 2010 quest was Zeitoun by Dave Eggers . Eggers retells the experience of one man just before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina. This is a non-fiction story written with a lot of empathy for the Zeitoun family. You can feel how touched Eggers was by this family's experience through the pages even though Eggers does an excellent job of letting his subjects speak for themselves....read more...D is for de Fombelle | Moms Miami //MomsMiami.com Member: mutantsupermodel D is for de Fombelle

Once upon a time, everyone wrote. You had to. There was no Facebook or Twitter, there were no e-mails or text messages, and there were no phones. So, when Mary missed her cousin Elizabeth, she'd sit down and pen her letter. Some times, it was long and some times it was short. And when William was in a romantic mood but his love was away, he sat down and wrote poems-- mostly bad ones. But most importantly, everyone kept diaries-...read more...

Last night, I spent three hours documenting twelve months of expenses as part of my divorce process. Today, I added a couple more hours. The process was pretty frustrating. It involved a lot of forehead-smashing and name-calling (my poor monitor is going to have major self-esteem issues). But, I now have a pretty good idea of how I spent my money in a year. The thing is, this process would easily have taken me three weeks, a lot of...read more...Go Ask Alice | Moms Miami //MomsMiami.com Member: mutantsupermodel Go Ask Alice

A few weeks ago, I was in the middle of the mother of emotional rollercoasters. This weekend, I inhaled Kevin Brockmeier's The Brief History of the Dead . This is a short read, about 270 pages. It's pretty interesting and hooked me easily.
