Should We Have Mother’s Day? | Moms Miami Blogs Should We Have Mother’s Day?
“I don’t believe in Mother’s Day.” That’s what my mom told me when I was growing up. She said we didn’t need a special holiday to appreciate her – we could do that any day.
It made sense at the time. But now that I’m a mom myself, I have to say I love Mother’s Day. This year was the best one yet. My 6-year-old announced that I would be having breakfast in bed. Then he presented me with a menu. I chose the chocolate chip waffles with whipped cream!
Some people say Mother’s Day is an artificial holiday designed to get us to spend money on cards and gifts. But this misses the point. It doesn’t cost anything to spend a little time with Mom, give her some extra hugs or breakfast in bed. It’s good for the kids, too – it lets them feel the joy and pride of giving back to someone they love.
While my mom is right that children can appreciate their mothers any day… the question is do they? It doesn’t hurt to give them a little reminder once a year!
What's your take on Mother's Day? Good for Main Street or good for Wall Street?
