Help For Children Who’ve Suffered a Loss | Moms Miami Blogs Help For Children Who’ve Suffered a Loss
Do you know a child who’s experienced the death of a loved one? If so, there’s an amazing place that offers help.
Tomorrow’s Rainbow, in Coconut Creek, is a unique place. By incorporating miniature horse interactions with therapeutic play areas and facilitated peer support, children are given the tools necessary to take their own personal grief journey in a way that is meaningful to them.
Founded by Abby Mosher after her husband was killed in an automobile accident more than three years ago, this program is set on a farm run by Abby and her fiancé Shel Cohen. Their mission is to offer a safe place where children feel understood, often for the first time.
With their herd of miniature horses, miniature UK Shetland Ponies, two miniature donkeys and a miniature pig, Abby, Shel, Abby’s son Dustin, and other grief facilitators work their magic with bereaved children.
This organization has not had much press, so they’re able to maintain the calm, private and safe atmosphere they need for the children and families they serve. But that also means they don’t get nearly enough funding – and they are funded solely by private and corporate donations.
Unfortunately, the current economic climate has contributed to a rise in suicides and homicides, meaning that the number of children experiencing loss is also rising. Tomorrow’s Rainbow is the only program totally dedicated to grief counseling in all of Broward County, so many agencies and religious organizations refer children to them. If you know a child who has suffered the loss of a loved one, contact Tomorrow’s Rainbow. And, of course, if you have an opportunity to donate, this would be someplace where your dollars can really make a difference in the lives of the most innocent and vulnerable victims in our South Florida community. Thank you for your support.
The job that Tomorrow's Rainbow does is amazing. For anyone who does not know what it does please do not hesitate to inquire about it and go to the website at tomorrowsrainbow.org. Help feed the animals that do wonders for all the children that are in need of our support. Please go to the website and click on Hayfever. A small donation will help a great deal. Thank you in advance for your support.
Tomorrow's Rainbow has been helping these children for years. They have no place else to go with their grieve. Please help to keep this wonderful place available for these children. Tell everybody that you know about Tomorrow's Rainbow and ask them to make a donation for the holidays for local children that really need our help.I have been fortunate enough to work alongside these children and the team at Tomorrow's Rainbow for over two years now. To say that these children experience breakthroughs is an understatement. There is not a session that I attend that I do not witness at least one child make strides towards their journey through the grieving process. Some are smaller than others...some are more subtle, each one is unique. The unfortunate fact is that there is such an overwhelming need for this type of service in our community that there is a constant influx of children coming to the program. What is needed now is attention from the media, donations and volunteers. No help is too little...so think of that when you read this! Thank you!Helplessly watching my husband exhale his final breath was clearly the hardest moment in my life. Telling my 7 year old son that his father had died was simply unbearable. So many families have walked in my shoes, but now there is finally a place for them to turn to for guidance and support. Please help us preserve Tomorrow's Rainbow for not only this generation, but for generations to come. Celebrate the joy of your family while helping our families. Save the date - Tomorrow's Rainbow Country Fair, February 8, 2009.
